From barbara at wordcourt.com Mon Mar 2 19:54:08 2009 From: barbara at wordcourt.com (Barbara Wallraff) Date: Mon Mar 2 19:54:13 2009 Subject: [Acbostonalums] Antioch events March 10 and March 8 Message-ID: Hello, again, We're approaching the midpoint of the 90-day period during which the Antioch University Board of Trustees and the Board Pro Tempore for Antioch College are working together to bring back an independent College. This is a unique and crucial time -- so anything you can do in support of Antioch now is extra-important. To learn more about the College's status and prospects, come talk with Lee Morgan, the chair of the Antioch College Board Pro Tem, and Matthew Derr, Chief Transition Officer, at a Boston Chapter alumni meeting on March 10. Lee and Matthew are at the two alumni representatives most deeply involved in reviving the College. There's no better source for up-to-date information. The event will be held Tuesday, March 10, 6:30 p.m. at my house: 1572 Mass. Ave., #47, Cambridge. This is in the middle of the block just north of the Cambridge Common. The block is actually a spur off the main part of Mass. Ave., across the street from Harvard Law School. There's metered parking (free after 6 p.m.) on the main part of Mass. Ave. Please be sure to let me know if you'd like to eat take-out food with us at 6:30; we'll ask you to pay for your share. You're also welcome to turn up at 7:15 if you don't want dinner. *** Yesterday afternoon a gang of five alums got together for a phonathon. We've set a chapter goal of raising $11,000 in donations and pledges toward the first year of salary for the future President of Antioch College. We pulled in more than $3,000 of that in four hours! We'll be making calls again next Sunday, March 8, from 3 to 7 p.m., and again getting together to do it -- this time at the home of Masha Etkin, 10 Copley St., Brookline, near BU. Would you care to join us? If so, let me know. If not, why not reply to this e-mail with a pledge toward our goal? (You'll be asked to fulfill it only if the College achieves independence.) That way, when we call you next week, you can save time by telling us you've already contributed. For more information about the College, visit www.antiochians.org. I hope to hear from you and see you soon! Barbara Wallraff '72 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... IF you're interested in joining us for dinner AND haven't already said so, please let me know now (or you'll take your chance on what there is to eat!). I hope to see you on Tuesday. References: <779863f50903021216w2cebf115i8fff13c6fbf40b69@mail.gmail.com> Message-ID: Hello, again, fellow Antiochians, This is a late follow-up to our recent phonathon and meeting with Matthew Derr and Lee Morgan. Plans for the revival of the College continue to move forward -- which is extra-impressive given the current economic climate. From now through the first part of April is a crucial period: If we have sufficient resources by mid-April, the College will reopen. If not, it will die, and the great hopes and effort that have already been lavished on reviving it will be wasted. Whether Antioch College is able to resume its historic place at the forefront of progressive education is up to us, everyone. Earlier this year, the Boston chapter set a fundraising goal of $11,000 in money and pledges, to be applied toward the first year of the future College President's salary. (Pledges will not come due if there is no College and so no need for a President.) When Karen Sheaffer, our treasurer, recently returned from a trip, she discovered that we've raised $10,150 of that. So far so good! If you intended to pledge when we contacted you during the phonathon but let it slide, now would be the time. Or if you're willing to make a new pledge now, the chapter would greatly appreciate it. (Among other things, we need to boost our reputation relative to the Philadelphia chapter, which raised $13,000 in one evening!) So would everyone who's working on behalf of the College-in-waiting. A copy of the pledge form is below, and many thanks for whatever you have done or are now able to do. Please don't delay -- the period stipulated in the letter of intent to the University ends soon. Regards, Barbara Wallraff '72 PS: Whose brown zip cardigan has been sitting on my hall table since the March 10 meeting? Please let me know if it's yours. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
