Dear Alumni & Friends of the College:

Little did we know that when we chose a name for the current Antioch College campaign, Making Change Happen, the title would be so prophetic. With the approval and launching of the Renewal Commission's recommendations (please see related story), change is certainly what this campaign and your gifts will help to support.

I am delighted to report that as of June 20, 2004, the campaign reached 53% of its $65 million goal with nearly $35 million received in gifts and pledges. The market value of the College Endowment has doubled - $15 million in 2001 to $30 million in 2004 - thanks largely to leadership gifts from members of the Antioch University Board of Trustees.

We have received significant gifts from alumni and foundations in support of the campaign and to help with the implementation of the renewal plan including a bequest from the estate of Hadley Case ’35; a grant from the Getty Fund for campus preservation; a gift in memory of Jane Cheney Spock to support the Renewal Commission; the establishment of the Alexander Family Endowed Faculty Development Fund; and the 1954 class gift to establish the Anne Poindexter Fischer Endowed Scholarship Fund.

The plan to overhaul the curriculum, increase student enrollment, and invest in renovations and new buildings on campus, new technology, programs and scholarships will require additional funds above and beyond the $65 million campaign goal. Nearly 350 alumni heard about these plans at Reunion 2004 and the atmosphere on campus during Reunion weekend was one of hope, excitement and expectation. Checks were written and pledges were given; offers to volunteer and suggestions for increased alumni involvement were made -- we were all in it together and enjoying every minute.

Yes, we have alot of work ahead of us, but when have Antiochians ever shirked a challenge? We are counting on you to protect and steward the College we all love and value. Thank you!
