E.
John Graham (1951 - 2001)
John
Graham served Antioch College with distinction for 12 years, including
five as Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations. His commitment
to the College’s core values, his professionalism and his panache in telling
the “Antioch story” became well known during his time at the College.
He died Thursday, November 8, 2001 of a heart attack. John had been Vice
President of Development for Muskingum College for the past five months.
John’s accomplishments in the areas of planned giving, major gifts, and
foundation grants were particularly significant, and helped provide Antioch
College with the resources for important campus renovations and program
enhancements. In addition, John was part of the fund-raising team in the
early 1990s that raised $50 million. “John was not an alum but he might
as well have been. His passion for this College, its values and mission,
were that of a lifelong Antiochian. He loved good wine, a great story,
a gourmet meal, a good cigar, talking about his family, and he never passed
up the opportunity to interject a pithy quote from Morgan, Mann, Henderson
or Dawson. John would spread the gospel of Antioch to anyone who would
listen, be they the baggage handler, Nobel laureate, cab driver, front
desk clerk, or VP,” said Callie Cary ’84, Director of Alumni Relations
at the College. “For those of you who knew John, tonight, when you sit
down to a meal, sip a glass of wine, settle in for a good yarn, or contemplate
your Antioch adventure and how it changed your life – take a moment to
think of John and his big love of his family, his community, Antioch and
all things bright and beautiful,” Callie said. “We miss John dearly, but
his indomitable spirit will keep his memory alive.”
