Stadtner ’00 The academic and experiential exploration encouraged on and off campus led Alexander Stadtner ’00 to discover passions beyond what he already knew. "The ability of students to actively participate in Antioch's administrative decisions greatly influenced what I pursued as a student," Alex said. "Faculty and administrators always said, 'It is the students who hold all the power at this school.'" Alex took that advice to heart. For his senior project, he created GreenCil, the environmental policy making body that still serves today to green the campus. After he graduated in 2000, Alex took on the responsibility of Budget Manager for Community Government on campus, which he called "one of the most intensive learning experiences of my life." He was exposed to budgeting and fundraising processes and also to the day-today management skills required for running a small business. For Alex, the student participation in Community government at Antioch led him to combine such seemingly disparate disciplines as Organizational Management and Environmental Studies into a Master’s program. He is now enrolled in the Resource Management and Administration program at Antioch New England (ANE), where he was recently elected co-chair of the ANE Student Alliance. Alex never lost his interest in the environment and found a graduate studies program that would incorporate his newfound enthusiasm for administration and leadership, with his already established commitment to the environment. At ANE Stadtner works part time for the Schools Go Green granting program in the Center for Environmental Education. He continues encouraging schools to implement similar campus ecology programs as those he proposed at Antioch College. "Before Antioch, those who cherished stability and the status quo would frequently label me a 'trouble-maker,'" he said. "After learning many valuable lessons at the College, such as how to determine which battles are worth fighting and how to most effectively initiate change, I am now seen as a 'progressive mover and shaker.'" Antioch College taught Alex about responsible citizenship and provided him with the tools he will need to make change happen. Now Antioch New England is giving him the practical training to become the green business owner he dreams of being. Join us in celebrating their pursuit of new venues:
