Alan Roland ’55 charts new pathways in psychoanalytic thinking about art and creativity in his new book, Dreams and Drama: Psychoanalytic Criticism, Creativity, and the Artist. Grounded in clinical observations and the author’s personal experiences as a visual artist and dramatist, Dreams and Drama revises long-held views in applied psychoanalysis and adds important new dimensions to clinical psychoanalytic thinking. Alan Roland is a practicing psychoanalyst, a training analyst and senior member on the faculty of the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis. He is author of In Search of Self in India and Japan: Toward a Cross Cultural Psychology (1988) and Cultural Pluralism and Psychoanalysis: The Asian and North American Experience (1996), and editor of Psychoanalysis, Creativity, and Literature: A French and American Dialogue (1978).
