Notes
90’s
Christopher
(Birdman) McCullough ’90 e-mails: “Living on a 38-acre
farm in one of the most remote places in the lower 48 states. Living a
life somewhere between Little House on the Prairie and Grizzly Adams.
Some might remember the Black Bear Ranch co-op and I live almost next
door on the Godfrey Ranch. Two biggest accomplishments so far are that
I’m still unmarried and childless. A close second to that is I’ve
paid off my student loans. I continued my formal education at UC Davis
and received a Master’s degree in Horticulture with emphasis in
Viticulture. Currently starting a small vineyard in a very micro-climate.
Success is trying. Deeply involved with local environmental restoration
and I continue to play, learn and teach music.”
Hope Anne Nathan ’92 e-mails: “I’m one of the managers
of Antioch92, an internet message board for Antiochians. The site started
out as a message board for the class of 1992, but it has since become
a site for Antiochians throughout the 90s and beyond. Come join us at
http://groups.msn.com/Antioch92/.”
Tei/Tay Okamoto ’93 e-mails: “In the city
of lost angels after almost 10 years in SF. I’m in research at UCLA
in HIV and AIDS. I sit on a million dollar project working with women
who are positive and have histories of child sexual abuse...hard work,
good work. We’ll be back in the Bay Area in about a year; my partner
is a professor who has decided to forgo tenure and become a lawyer and
work in International Law and Public Policy. I’m completing my Ph.D.
in Human Sexuality and have started another program (yes, I’m tired)
in Acupuncture and Herbology (M.A. in Traditional Oriental Medicine).
I envision all of this school and work will come together at some point
and make sense for an invigorating career! In the meanwhile, I am just
enjoying the universe. Cultural Activist Imani Uzuri (NY) and I are working
on an anthology of works by Women of Color - The Herstory of Works
By, For and About Women of Color. Gimme a holler, I’d love
to hear from folks: herbanclinic

Lonsdale ’94 writes: “Since I graduated Antioch,
I have lived everywhere under the sun, from New York to San Francisco
to Chile, and I have worked in everything from publishing to teaching
English as a second language to baggage handling for an airline to helping
homeless Latinos with HIV/AIDS find subsidized housing. Now living in
Providence, RI and coordinating an inner-city asthma education program.
Hoping to start graduate school in Fall 2003. Happily partnered with a
Chilean poet and philosopher named Christian (who is an artist), whom
I happen to have married. Still working on building my FBI file, recovering
from political correctness and the suffocating religious fanaticism underlying
the Horace Mann motto, struggling to open my mind and keep abreast of
world events despite the odds, writing poetry, and striving to find my
great co-op in the sky. Still close friends with Mariposa Geller
’93 and Wendy Schwartz ’92. Any
other lost friends (or foes) please e-mail me: joyalonsdale@hotmail.com.”
Write: 33 Doyle Avenue, Apt. 2, Providence, RI 02906-1705.
Hannah McLaughlin ’94 writes: “Hi there!
It’s been a while since I have heard from many of my Antioch friends,
so I thought I’d write to see who’s out there! Here’s
what’s happening with me.
I’m in my third year of teaching, having gotten my teaching credential
and M.A.E. from Antioch Los Angeles in the class of ’00 (the first
graduating class for that degree here in LA). I work in Wilmington, CA
at a year-round school. My current class is a 3/4 combo of very low ELD
(English language development) students. However, they are for the most
part eager learners and I have been able to make some progress with many
of them. Several have even jumped a grade level or more in English reading
comprehension. It’s been a very challenging year with the dual grade
level and older kids, but I’ve been up to the challenge and have,
I think, learned a great deal too. I do hope to go back to teaching 1st
grade next year. I’ve been going to several training conferences
recently to learn more about meeting the educational needs of the student
population of my school. The students at my school are predominantly of
Central & South American decent, their families are mostly new immigrants,
1st or 2nd generation. They are nearly all second language learners and
nearly all poor. I will be teaching intercession during my off-track time
in March and April. We don’t call it summer school since it’s
not during the summer. I’ll be working with students who are at
risk of failing due to their limited English levels or poor academics.
I am so happy to be in the classroom and excited about teaching my students,
it’s everything I’ve ever wanted to do!
As for my personal life....I’m struggling between being very against
this war that is impending, and being supportive of my boyfriend who is
active Air Force and has orders to be deployed to the Middle East any
day now. He is, on the other hand, very much in agreement with the war.
We have been together for close to a year now, and when he gets back,
we plan to spend more time getting to know each other and thinking about
a future. I am very happy in So. Cal. and enjoy many activities outside
and at the beach. So, those of you who are out there and want to get in
touch with me, please write! I’d love to hear from you!” E-mail:
hannahmcl@adelphia.net.
Aoife (Susan) R. Barrington ’96 writes: “Been
living in Boston area since fall of 96. I’ve been acting with the
Maine Renaissance Faire for the past six years, and in dinner theatres
and musicals. I’ve been studying voice, am singing with a chamber
chorus, and getting back into dance (doing work-study at the Dance Complex).
I also teach an after-school puppetry program to kids in Dorchester, and
I’ve been the nanny for a fabulous little girl for the past four
years. July 2000 I was handfasted to Michael Haber, aka Hobbit, whom I’m
marrying this June. We have a psycho-kitty named Diablo.”
Ashley Posella ’97 writes: “I am living in
south Florida (we would love visitors!) with my wonderful, cool, soon-to-be
hubby Toby and our son Elijah, 2. For those of you who remember Ezra running
around campus, he’s now eight, in 3rd grade and still wild. I’m
training him to be a non-conformist by supplying him with green and blue
hair gels. I’m working at American Express as a multimedia designer
while helping my fiancé, a toy designer, come up with a big bucks
winner, hopefully we’ll come up with the next Mr. Potato Head! Get
in touch! E-mail: ashmanz@hotmail.com.”
