Faculty in Antioch Education Abroad
Programs: Antioch in Germany, Brazilian Ecosystems, Field Studies in Japan, Art and Culture in Mali, Buddhist Studies in India, Buddhist Studies in Japan, Europe in Transition, Comparative Women’s Studies in Europe

Suzanne Kolb, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science. Brazilian Ecosystems Program Director. Favorite Course: Ecology and Biodiversity of Brazil. Suzanne recently revisited her roots and writes: “I poked around the very salt marshes that first sparked my interest in biology, walked through my old home neighborhood, and through the halls of my elementary school, junior high school and high school. I walked around the grounds of my old summer camp and strolled around the college campus where I did my undergraduate work. I walked through all of this in a span of just three days, hitting the north shore, south shore, and points east on Long Island, New York. I also threw out the first pitch at a pre-season Yankees game. It was high and inside for a ball.”

Suzanne continues working on projects designed to help protect fragile patches of high species diversity in Brazil’s Atlantic Coastal Forest, which is more endangered but not as “sexy” as the Amazon Rainforest. One project involves providing technical assistance for a forest restoration study, the other involves ensuring long-term viability of an alternative means of income for a small community previously dependent on the illegal exploitation of an endangered plant species.

Robert Pryor, Director of Buddhist Studies Program in India and Associate Professor. Favorite Course: Buddhism in America. This year Robert celebrated a new grandchild! Kai was born on April 18, 2002 to Aimee Lunde Maruyama ’96. Molly Lunde ’98 visited the program in India in December and is now at a yoga center in Thailand.

Robert published an article on Bodh Gaya in the spring issue of Tricycle magazine in 2003.
