Faculty
in Cultural and Interdisciplinary Studies Dennie Eagelson ’71, Assistant Professor of Photography. Favorite Course: Image as Document and Invention. Dennie recently offered a pinhole photography workshop in Havana, Cuba. She then presented Pinhole in Havana and Ohio at the Faculty Symposium at Antioch College in fall 2002, and Pinhole/Plastic Lens Photographs in the Herndon Gallery at the Faculty Art Show, also in Fall 2002. More recently, from November 2 - February 3, her work has been exhibited in the Dayton Art Institute’s Regional Artist’s Gallery. Dennie was nominated for the Ohio Governer’s Award for Individual Artist 2002-2003, and she was invited to review portfolios at the National Society of Photographic Educations Conference in Austin, Texas in March. Elizabeth (Liz) England-Kennedy, Director of the Academic Support Center. Favorite Course: Disabilities and Giftedness. Liz recently completed her dissertation and was awarded her Ph.D. in medical anthropology with a specialization in cultural anthropology from the University of Arizona. The title of her dissertation is Performing the Label ‘LD’: An anthropology of U.S. undergraduates with learning disabilities. Liz’s work informs her teaching in a variety of ways. Liz’s course list includes Writing Skills Workshop, Disabilities and Giftedness, Fencing, and numerous independent studies. Liz runs the Academic Support Center with the help of the new Assistant Director John Smith. John received his M.A. in art history from the University of Alabama and is working on a M.F.A. in book arts, also at the University of Alabama. Geoffrey (Jahwara) Giddings, Assistant Professor of African/African-American Studies. Favorite Course: Introduction to African Studies and African-American Psychology. Jahwara traveled “home” to Guyana, South Africa for a week during 2002. He also received the Cheikh Anta Diop Award for best scholarly article: “Infusion of Afrocentric Content into the School Curriculum” in the Journal of Black Studies from the Ankh Scientific Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
