Faculty Development in Technology

In 2002-2003 Antioch College faculty participated in the Midwest Instructional Technology Center (MITC). Associate Professor of Computer Science and Mathe-matics C.T. Chen, MITC liaison for Antioch, attended the MITC liaisons’ meeting in Chicago. Professor Chen also attended MITC’s Workshop to Go on planning an instructional technology project, hosted at Antioch College in November 2002. Charles Taylor, Professor of Physics, also attended the Workshop to Go on Web authoring at Antioch.

Susan Eklund-Leen, Professor of Cooperative Education, and Sharon Malson, Administrative Assistant for the Physical Sciences, attended both Antioch College’s Workshop to go on planning an instructional technology project in October of 2002 and the Web authoring Workshop to Go in November.

Elizabeth England-Kennedy, Director of the Academic Support Center, attended the week-long symposium and workshop Teaching with Technology in the Social Sciences at Grinnell College in June of 2002.

Peter Townsend, Professor of Environmental Science and Geology, and Tom Ayrsman ’79, Assistant Professor of Botany and Environmental Science, were among six teams from the region in attendance at the NITLE GIS Workshop at the Associated Colleges of the South Tech Center in January 2003.

Pat Linn, J.D. Dawson Professor of Cooperative Education and Professor of Psychology and Women’s Studies, requested support to bring a technology consultant to the Center for Cooperative Education. MITC worked with Professor Linn and Antioch IT Director David Manley to develop a consulting agreement with Mark Cain, Executive Director of Information Technology, Mount St. Joseph College, and William Fletcher, Director of Experiential Education Programs at the same institution. The two visited Antioch College on September 27, 2002, and later prepared a report of their findings and recommendations. The report was delivered to Professor Linn and Dr. Manley and will aid in planning technology developments appropriate to advance Antioch’s cooperative education program in ways that will make it easier to collaborate with other institutions in this key area.
