Livermore Street

By Anne Townsend '03

In the Spring of 2001, the Antioch College community embraced the first issue of Livermore Street, a student-run literary journal. The journal is published on a tri-annual basis and features poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and polished pages of black-and-white photography and art. Livermore Street is now well into its third volume and continues to grow under the esteemed advisement of faculty and staff members Dr. Benjamin Scott Grossberg and Rachel Moulton '97.

As stated in the editorial policy, the goal of the journal is to provide the Antioch community with the highest quality art and literature produced by Antioch students. Faculty, staff, and alumni are also encouraged to submit their work. Livermore Street recently published work by Dennie Eagleson and Victor Garcia, two respected members of the faculty. In the Fall of 2001, under the leadership of editor and writer Rafael Torch '02, the staff chose to push the aesthetic quality of the magazine to a more professional level. The first of several generous anonymous donations made the vision possible: the journal now boasts a shiny cover and glossy pages of art.

Joanna Bock '02, continued the professional vision, overseeing the largest editorial board to date in the Spring of 2002. This issue highlighted the work of many members of the community, resulting in a book more representative of Antioch than seen in the past. During the Summer of 2002, we embarked on the third volume of Livermore Street as a collective editorial staff. Published alongside the third Antioch College Summer Writing Intensive, design and production staff members Kristen Muir '04 and Ross Thomas '03 designed the most aesthetically pleasing issue to date.

This Fall, Caroline Nappo '03 and I graciously accepted the shared title of Editor-in-Chief. We hope to make the journal accessible to all members of the Antioch family, ultimately publishing a paperback truly reflective of the College.
