New Director of Communications
Reaches Out to Alumni
- By Jeremy Burks 01

Rachel Moulton ’97 is no stranger to Antioch College. After graduating in 1997, she pursued an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College in Boston. She returned to Antioch in 2000 as Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing, a position she held for two years. In addition to teaching, Rachel has worked on a part-time basis with Antioch Education Abroad, the Dean of Faculty, the President’s Office, and the Academic Support Center.

In fall, 2001, Rachel began writing for The Antiochian. This, in turn, segued to her editing the most recent issue. So, when Antioch announced last August that it would be hiring a full-time Director ofCommunications, she seemed a natural choice. She began work January 6th.

As Director of Communications, Rachel considers communicating with alumni on a regular basis her primary goal: “You can expect something from us on a consistent basis, whether it’s a postcard or an issue of The Antiochian.” Some of what you can expect includes The Forum, a biannual 8-page newsletter composed primarily of news and notes; more online information, eventually including e-mail newsletters (which are both more affordable and environmentally friendly); and, of course, two issues of The Antiochian each year. These publications are designed to increase the College’s avenues of communications with alumni and embody “…a consistency, a professional feel, and a recognizable Antioch image.”

In addition to working on current publications, Rachel has taken on the task of re-designing the College’s communications infrastructure. One of the many improvements Rachel has made in her short tenure as Director of Communications has been the establishment of the Communications Advisory Board. The Communications Advisory Board meets monthly, and is comprised of people involved in producing publications for Antioch College. Members range from the editors of The Antioch Record to the Senior Associate Director of Admissions Communications to the Director of Alumni Relations.

Rachel encourages alumni to contact her with suggestions or contributions to the College’s publications. The alumni consistently provide valuable content for these publications, and Rachel encourages them to continue to do so. It is also important that alumni update their e-mail addresses with Alumni Relations in order to receive any future e-mail newsletters.
