DC Alums Gather
by Dana Clark Felty ’98 Arlington, VASome DC Alumni got a warm reminder last week about how easily Antiochians of all generations connect when they come together. About 35 Antiochians representing classes from 1946 to 2000 attended a potluck gathering on Friday, March 16, organized by Karen Mulhauser ’65 and me on Maryland Avenue, NE, across from the Supreme Court.
It was such a fun evening. Tons of food and wine and laughs. And I think there was a general consensus that we really should do this more often.
People were sharing some amazing experiences. I heard some great stories about wild co-ops, quarter-length love affairs, dorm craziness, beloved professors and a host of daring Div themes over the generations. Did not know there used to be a “Stag Hall” in South Hall and that the atmosphere was about like it sounds. Sources will go unnamed but if it’s true I’m sure there are others who can confirm.
One exciting moment was when Miguel Santiago ’98, an alum and a counselor in the Admissions Office, announced that Carl Reeverts, Jr. has been accepted to next Fall’s entering class, to the surprise of Carl Jr. and alumnus Carl Sr. ’70. (BTW, congrats to Miguel on getting into law school!)
We got to say hi to President Bob Devine ’67 who was visiting DC. Got to meet a current co-oping student from Tübingen, Germany, Hans Peter Nagel. And we got to see off Prexy Nesbitt ’67 who is on his way to South Africa as a new program officer with the AFL-CIO.
There were some really amazing folks there, and it was great to catch up with others.
We’ll try to keep in touch with everyone and do it again soon. If anyone here couldn’t come but wants a heads-up on the next one, just let me know at dfelty@ antioch-college.edu.
